No.2556, Private, Thomas Frederick JOLLY
Aged 17
Thomas Frederick Jolly was born in 1898 in Barningham (Thetford Q1-1898 4B:376), son of Arthur R and Liele JOLLY (née REYNOLDS).
1901 census...Aged 3, he was at Swiss Cottage, Barningham with his father Arthur Robert Jolley [31] police constable born Bramford; his mother Liele [31] born Bury St Edmunds; sister Jessie Florence Victoria [7] born Bury St Edmunds and brother Arthur Robert T [4] born Barningham. 1911 census...Aged 13, he was at Police Station, Chedburgh Road, Whepstead with his parents; sisters Jessie and Ella Saddington (under 3 months) born Whepstead; brother Arthur (farm labourer). No documentation to connect him with Ampton but presumably his father was posted to Ampton as policeman after the 1911 census. |
He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. Having only reached Gallipoli in August 1915 he very quickly caught and succumbed to dysentry. Disease
took a great toll of the men in that campaign.
