Born in 1891 son of Henry and Eliza LEWIS(née LONG) Baptised at St.Paul's, Thornton Heath on 10th April 1892, resident at 1 Temple Villas, Bensham Grove, Croydon
His father has first been married to Anna BRISTER with whom he had 4 daughters, Catherine, Beatrice, Ethel and Florence and two sons, Harry and Thomas. Anna died in 1887 and Henry married Eliza Jarman FROST in 1889

1901 census...Aged 9, he was at 72 Bensham Grove, Croydon with his father Henry LEWIS [53] mechanical engineer born Dartford, Kent; his mother Eliza [39] born Bury St.Edmunds; half sisters Ethel A [21] born Whitton, Middlesex and Florence J [19] born Croydon.

1911 census...Aged 19 engineer's apprentice, he was at 12 Southgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents.


He enlisted in the Suffolk Territorials on 14th January 1911, 19 yrs 9 months, an apprentice at R.Boby Ltd Bury St.Edmunds. In August 1911 he was transferred to the Suffolk Regiment Cyclist Battalion

Arrived in BEF one day too late for a clasp to his 1914 Star. He died of gun shot wounds to the head at 14 Field Ambulance.

He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds on 14th November 1914, giving his age as 23 yrs 196 days, a brewer's engineer resident at 12 Southgate, Bury St.Edmunds, born in Thornton Heath near Croydon
He left the 6th Suffolk Territorials to join the Regular Army. He was 6 feet 1.5 inches tall, chest 33 to 37.5 inches, weighing 153 lbs, next of kin, his mother Eliza.
Posted to Army Cyclists and promoted to Lance Corporal immediately and then posted to the BEF on 23rd November 1914.

His Army Form 5080, completed by his mother in April1919 had living his parents at 12 Southgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds, half brother Tom Drysdale LEWIS [34] Boundary Street, West Coast, New Zealand, half sisters Catherine Fanning [46] at 107 London Rd, Clapton E5, Ethel Lewis [39] at School House, Beyton, Suffolk and Florence Ratcliff at 53 Bellingham Road, Calford SE6.

Reginald Lewis is buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground (Transport Farm), Belgium 1:C:11
