Nothing has been found to identify him as a civilian, except his legatee was a sister, Matilda according to his "Soldiers Personal Effects" entry.


He died from an abscess of the liver at Wynberg ( a suburb of Capte Town)


His Queens South Africa medal has clasps for Cape Colony - Orange Free State - Transvaal. The Kings South Africa medal has South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902
