To the eternal memory of the men of GREAT WRATTING who died in the service of their country
Eight in the Great War of 1914-1918 and three from 1939-1945




Robert Drake's plaque in Great Wratting church



Inside St Mary's Church, Great Wratting are three wall mounted Plaques. Grey stone tablets honour seven men of the village and the three men who fell in 1939-1945. Another, of white marble and a dark grey surround, commemorates Robert Drake, born in the village.
The first is headed by a red painted cross and the incised dedication reads:-

TO THE GLORY OF GOD
AND IN MEMORY OF THE

FELL IN THE GREAT WAR OF
1914-1919

THOMAS BOWERS

and painted in red
They gave themselves


The second plaque is a grey stone tablet on a darker grey surround. Headed by a lozenge depicting the badge of the Lincolnshire Regiment, the incised, black painted dedication reads

CAPTAIN AND ADJUTANT OF THE
1ST BATTALION OF THE LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT
BORN IN THIS PARISH JANUARY 4,1878.
MORTALLY WOUNDED DURING A SUCCESSFUL
ATTEMPT MADE BY THE REGIMENT TO CAPTURE A
GERMAN BATTERY,IN THE BATTLE OF THE MARNE
IN FRANCE, SEPTEMBER 8,1914
BURIED IN THE CHURCHYARD OF THE VILLAGE OF
BEZU,NEAR NANTEUIL,ON THE RIVER MARNE.
