CRAVEN-CLUB

Location:- Primrose House, High Street

Started by by billiard player Tom Reece as the Victoria Club in the old Victoria mansions (later Carlton Hotel) in the 1920's but moved to Primrose House (2019- Cartwright's Electricals and "Kitchen and Things") around 1935/ 1936. It was recorded in the 1st edition of the Guinness Book of Records (1955) that Jim Pike went around the board on doubles, retrieving his own darts, in the time of 14.5 seconds. He did this at arms length at The Craven Club, Newmarket in 1944.

Very little has been found about this club. In 1950 Primrose House was owned by the Loyal Beacon Lodge of Odd Fellows Friendly Society. Purchased by Cartwright Brothers and the the northern half of the ground floor was leased to Cramphorns (previously Newmarket Corn Coal & Forage and subsequently to Kitchen and Things
