Percy Harold Millard was born in Bottisham in 1896 (Newmarket Q1-1896 3B:500), son of Saunders and Charlotte MILLARD (née MARSH).

1901 census...Aged 5, he was at Town Street, Bottisham, with his grandparents , James MILLARD [61] farm labourer born Lode and Sarah [55] born Lode and his sister Olive [4] born Bottisham. His parents were at Elfleda Lodge, Newmarket Road, Fen Ditton, father Saunders MILLARD [31] gardener, mother Charlotte [31] and brother Charles Edward [2]. All three were born in Bottisham.

1911 census...Aged 15, farm labourer, he was at The Green, Reach, with his parents and brother Charles Edward and sisters Maggie Oswath [9] born Fen Ditton and Violet Snowdrop [4] born Reach.

He enlisted in Cambridge.
Since he died at a General Hospital and his Army records have not been found, there is no way of telling where and when he was wounded. Being in a base hospital indicates a serious wound and a couple of days at least away from the fighting. The 11th Suffolk had been in the trenches in the Albert- Ovillers area until 8th July, in fact they were heavily involved right from the start of the Battle of the Somme on July 1st.

Percy Millard is buried in Abbeville Communal Cemetery, gave 5:E:12 (upper terrace)
and also commemorated on the Burwell war memorial
