Charles Raymond CARTER was born in Chippenham on 19th October 1914 (Newmarket Q4-1914 3B:787) , baptised in Chippenham on 22nd November 1914, the son of Henry Arthur and Helen Margaret CARTER (née WOODS).

He attended Soham Grammar School from 1926 to 1931. Probate gave his address as New Street,Chippenham. The Memorial in Chippenham seems to be the only place where he is recorded as Raymond Charles instead of Charles Raymond.

In the 1939 register (transcribed as CARSTER) at New Street, Chippenham, were his father Henry A [29-6-1880] a gardener and his mother Helen M [18-3-1886].There is one closed record



Charles died of Dysentery at Tamarkan Camp on the Burma Railway whilst a prisoner of war of the Japanese army.
