In the 1939 register, at Windyridge, Cardigan Street, Newmarket were his father Frederick C [7-3-1890] a chemist's dispenser, mother Meta [24-3-1893] and brother Michael L [28-7-1922] assistant cinema projectionist. One closed record. |

There was a comprehensive report in the Newmarket Journal of 19th November 2009, this gave the location of the graves as Military Cemetery Bergicourt, (near
Poix de Picardie SW of Amiens) row 1, graves 11; 11bi and 12 in 1948. That cemetery no longer exists, the casualties being re-interred, in this case in a
collective grave at St Valery en Caux. Frederick and his crew took of in Fairey Battle P2162, c/s PH-Q, at 17:28 from Echemines (near Troyes, France) on 7th June 1940 to attack a panzer tank column. They were shot down in flames in the target area. Sgt Fields, Sgt HC Bevan and LAC McKrell were all killed.
