John Merry PLUMB was born in Balsham (Linton Q2-1889 3B:532), baptised in Balsham on 7th July 1889, son of George and Jane PLUMB (née FULLER ).

1891 census...Aged 2, he was in Church Lane, Balsham with his father George PLUMB [36] farm labourer; his mother Jane [36]; sisters Emma [13] and Mary [5]; brothers George [8] and William [6]. All were born in Balsham.

1901 census...Aged 12, he was at School Lane, Balsham with his parents; brothers George and William (farm labourers), Albert E [6] and Cubitt [4]; sisters Mary Dora E [8] and Julia [1]. The new siblings also born in Balsham.

1911 census...Aged 22, a farm labourer, he was at Church Lane, Balsham with his parents; brothers William, Albert and Cubitt (all farm labourers); sisters Mary, Dora and Julia. All nine siblings survive.

His mother died in 1916 and he married Florence Emma PLUMB in 1916 (Newmarket Q3-1916 3B:1113) later of 59 Russell Road, Finsbury Park, London. The pension card has her at 57 Acacia Road, St.John's Wood, London.


John enlisted at Mill Hill, Middlesex. The Roll of Honour erroneously has him dying on 27th August.

He died of his wounds at the 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station at Remy Siding.
