COOK, Frank Sidney Walter

No.5828408, Private, Frank Sidney Walter COOK
Aged 31

5th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment
Died of Illness in Captivity on Thursday, 9th March 1944

Frank Sidney Walter Cook was born on 1913 (Cosford Q1-1913 4A-1763), believed to be the son of Sidney Ernest and Faith Sybil COOK (née RAMPLING) of Hitcham.

He appears to have married Winifred E MORTLOCK in Risbridge Q3-1937. It is believed they had 2 daughters and a son.

Attempts find any of them in the 1939 register have so far failed

He was mobilised the same day as George Backler judging by their numbers.. His Prisoner of War card has not yet been found, despite his being named on many prisoner lists. He was captured on 15th February 1942, the day of the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese.
He died from malaria and was initially buried in Hindate Cemetery and moved with his comrades to Thanbyuzayat in February 1946.
