Richard Rawlinson was born in (Linton Q4-1878 3B:530), baptised in Castle Camps, Congregational Church on 9th March 1879, son of James and Emma RAWLINSON (née LEONARD).
The family name is sometimes Rowlinson, or Rawlingson

1881 census...Aged 2, he was at High Street Cottages, Castle Camps with his father James RAWLINSON [29] farm labourer born Shudy Camps, his mother Emma [29]; sisters Sarah [7] and Rosetta [5]; brother Benjamin [5 months]. All except his father were born in Castle Camps.

1891 census...Aged 12, he was at Haverhill Road, Castle Camps with his parents; sisters Rose, Rebecca [8], Lily [6], Lydia [4] and Daisy [2]; brother Bennett (Benjamin). The new siblings all born in Castle Camps.

1901 census...Aged 21, a bricklayer's labourer, he was at 6 Falcon Road, Ponders End,Enfield with his cousin Fanny Leonard and her family. His parents (now Rawlingson) were in Castle Camps; his brother Bennett and sisters Rose, Lydia,Daisy and Kate [7] (all recorded as born Castle Camps).



1911 census...Aged 31, single, a farm labourer, he was at Castle Camps with his parents, brother Benjamin (farm labourer) and sister Daisy. Three of the ten siblings had died.


He enlisted in Linton.

from Lt Col Murphy's "History of the Suffolk Regiment:
"The 7th Suffolks took over trenches west of Pozières on 3rd August. On the 8th the Germans captured about 80 yards of Ration Trench but that evening the Battalion retook it and gained an additional 200 yards.
The CWGC records that the battalion lost 50 killed on the 9th August 1916, only 7 having identified graves.
