John Jaggard DAVIES was born in 1924 (Romford Q3-1924 4A:851), son of Richard Llewelyn and Kathleen Florence DAVIES (née JAGGARD), of South Croydon, Surrey

He was a member of the 3rd Scout Group, Bury St. Edmunds (Culford School.)

In the 1939 register, he was at school, living with his parents at 115 Blenheim Park Road, Croydon. Father Richard L [11-7-1882] Municipal Servant, Supplies Dept; mother Kathleen F [1-4-1896] (later married -STANGROOM); sister Pauline (Gertrude) [25-2-1922] and invalid grandmother Sarah JAGGARD [15-11-1865].


On October 21st 1944, while carrying out dual circuits and landings from RAF Calveley (near Nantwich), Airspeed Oxford Mk I LX695 crashed into high ground (Peckforton Point, near Tarporley, Cheshire), some 4 miles from the airfield. The aircraft was totally destroyed and the instructor 1473487, F/Sgt Goodinson, G.A. and the pilot under training, 1605847 Sgt Davies, John Jaggard.J. were both killed instantly.

No 11 (Pilot) Advanced Flying Unit were based at RAF Calveley from May 1943








John Davies is buried in Chester (Blacon) Cemetery. Sect A, grave 1099
