Berick EWIN was born on 15th January 1914 in Hendon (Hendon Q1-1914 3A:746), son of Henry Hamilton and Maisie Eleanor EWIN(née PLATTS). He was registered as Berwick EWIN, and had a brother Donald Leslie EWIN [4-12-1911]

He was a member of 3rd Scout Troop Bury St.Edmund (Culford School).

His will gave his address as Melvin Hall, Golders Green, London, effects to his widowed mother. The electoral roll has them at 10 Alberon Gardens, Hendon in 19139.


He was commissioned on 23rd August 1940.

HM Trawler "Jasper" was taken over by the Royal Navy in 1935. Displacing 581 tons she carried one 4 inch gun.

HMT Jasper, commanded by temp Lt.Hodson RNVR) was torpedoed and sunk by the German motor torpedo boat S-81 in the English Channel south of Bolt Head in position 50°10'N, 03°48'W on 1 December 1942.There were 10 survivors including the Commanding Officer, but eleven men died.
