Walton Bruce HOLMES was born Durban, Natal in 1891, son of William and Margaret HOLMES (née WADE).

1891 census...Presumably in South Africa

1901 census...Aged 10, he was at 4 College Gardens, Camberwell, with is father William HOLMES [50] export agent born Alston, Cumberland; his mother Margaret [30] born Montrose, Scotland and brother William M [7] born Montrose, Scotland.

1911 census...None of the family found, probably back in South Africa, where his father died in 1929

By the end of the war his family were at 65 North Ridge Road, Durban


It is known that he died of septicaemia (from the South African War Graves Project)

His military history is dependent on a reply from the Defence Ministry of South Africa (who have proven to be helpful in the past)
