William Keay THOMPSON was born on 18th October 1895 (Middlesborough Q4-1895 9D:532), son of Robert George and Eliza Jane THOMPSON (née KEAY)

1901 census... Aged 5, he was at Whitehall Street, Stockton on Tees with his father Robert G THOMPSON,[38] assistant school master and his mother Eliza [32], all born in Middlesbrough.

1911 census... None of family positively identified in this census. William may very well have been at Culford. He married Margaret BRODIE in 1925, later of Linthorpe, Middlesborough.

His father died in Middlesborough in 1936.
In the 1939 register, an iron/steel, manufacturer's agent he was at 42 Emerson Avenue, Middleborough with his wife Margaret K [29-8-1896] and widowed Harriet BRODIE [27-1-1870] (his grandmother). His address in his will was 22 Daglands Road, Fowey, Cornwall, probate to Mrs Lena Hannah Smith.


He was commissioned from Cadet in Durham University to 2nd Lieutenant in Northern Cyclist Battalion on 8th April 1915. 12th April 1940 he was promoted to Lieutenant in Green Howards.

That, unfortunately, is all that has been uncovered so far.
