George WRIGHT was born at Great Walsingham Mill House on 25th December 1891 (Walsingham Q1-1892 4B:290), baptised on 7th February 1892, son of Herbert and Agnes Ann WRIGHT (née ATTHOW).
1901 census...Aged 9, he was at Mill House, Scarborough Road, Great Walsingham with his father Herbert WRIGHT [40]. miller/baker/grain merchant; his mother Agnes A [44] born in Great Massingham; brother Herbert J [12] and sister Olive M [5]. All were born in Great Walsingham except his mother. He was educated at Walsingham Grammar School and East Anglian School, Bury St.Edmunds. 1911 census...Aged 19, he was a miller, assisting his father and uncle Walter, still at the Mill House with his parents. He was still there, on the electoral roll for 1915 |

He enlisted in Cromer. The badge in his photograph is of the Norfolk Yeomanry. Unfortunately a computer burn out took with it my record of the donor of the photograph
The war diary: Battalion had taken over trenches from the 21st Northumberland Fusiliers on 26th (SW of Hargicourt). On 28th "at stand to" this morning the enemy artillery was fairly active on front line and Battalion HQ. Casualties 1 OR killed 3 OR wounded. George was of course that unlucky one Other Rank. No citation has been found for his Military Medal . Initially buried in Bernes Churchyard before concentration to Tincourt, five miles away |
