Arthur Stanley Rand was born in Poplar (Poplar Q4-1894 1C:665) son of Arthur and Annie RAND (née PERCIVAL). His father died, aged 24, in 1895 (London C Q1-1895 1C17)
and his mother married Harry JOBSON (Risbridge Q2-1899 4A:1291)
1901 census...Aged 6 he was at 114 Pearcroft Road, Low Leyton, West Ham with his stepfather Harry JOBSON [29] railway labourer born Helions Bumpstead and his mother Annie [30] born Birdbrook. It seems his mother died in 1901 in London and father re-married to Ada AGER in 1903 1911 census...Aged 16, working in pub, he was at the Pig and Whistle, Helions Bumpstead with his uncle Charles PERCIVAL [44] publican/farmer born Birdbrook and his aunt Mary Ann [41] born Wood Green, Middlesex. It can be assumed that it was his father in Helions Bumpstead with wife Ada [32] and their daughter Dorothy [7], sons Charles [5] and Frederick [2], all born in Helions Bumpstead. His sole legatee was cousin Miss A.E.PERCIVAL. |

He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds, and must have stood in line with Charles Hughes as they have consecutive regimental numbers. "Solider Died" has him born
in Helions Bumpstead but this is incorrect.
