Reginald George Murrell was born on March 10th 1915 in Cherry Hinton (Chesterton Q2-1915 3B:716), baptised in Cherry Hinton on 4th April 1915, son of Henry George and Annie MURRELL (née PLUMB) of Fisher's Lane, Cherry Hinton. An only child, his father was a farm labourer who was killed in France on 27th July 1916. His mother married Robert Henry JACOBS in 1919.

He married Violet WHITNEY in Q3-1940 St.Pancras 1B:365)

In the 1939 Register only his mother and half brothers Douglas and Bernard JACOBS were found, in Horseheath.

His half brother Leslie Jacobs died in in Singapore in 1942 see here

...his father is on the Cherry Hinton war memorial.


His death was registered in MERE, Wiltshire (Q3-1940 5A:495). He died on manoeuvres in Frome, Somerset in 1940. He had survived the Dunkirk evacuation and had only been married to his wife Violet for 10 days.


Reginald Murrell is buried in Horseheath (All Saints) Churchyard with a private memorial
