Claude George John Lee was born in Cambridge 2nd December 1892 (Cambridge Q1-1893 3B:479), baptised Cambridge, Holy Trinity on 11th January 1893, son of Arthur Male and Elizabeth LEE (née EDWARDS) of 6 Willow Walk, Cambridge.

He started school at Brunswick Boys' School, Cambridge in 1900

1901 census...Aged 8, he was at 14 Priory Villas, Priory Road, Cambridge with his father Arthur Male LEE [39] solicitor's clerk; his mother Elizabeth [41] and brother Horace Arthur Male. All were born in Cambridge.

1911 census...Aged 18, a grocer's assistant, he was at 25 Gwydir Street, Cambridge with his parents and brother Horace (grocer's assistant)

In 1916 (Cambridge Q2-1916 3B:1063) he married Florence HAMMOND. He died in 1919 of Pthysis Pulmonalis(Cambridge Q3-1919 3B:411), a stockman/Army pensioner. They were living at 27 Staffordshire Street, Cambridge.

There is however no evidence, so far, of his connection with Lode, unless perhaps his parents later moved to Lode..


He enlisted on 1st March 1916. He was discharged from the Army on 13th February 1919, in which case "Soldiers Died" will not have recorded him. He died in Cambridge on 17th September 1919.


Discharge from the Labour Corps through illness and awarded silver war badge # B296,614. The Labour Corps was often the last unit for men whose fitness had deteriorated.




Claude Lee is buried in ??
He is not on the CWGC records..his Army documents are needed to see if his death was attributable to military service.
