Walter Thomas Rushbrooke was born in 1918 (3rd qtr 1918 Bury St.Edmunds 4a:1235), son of Walter Ellis and Sylvia Mary RUSHBROOKE (née PETT)
The family lived as close to Nowton as to Sicklesmere, and his cricket club connection would have reinforced the inclusion of his name on the memorial

From living at Brick Kiln Cottages, Sicklemere, his mother moved to 39 Chalk Road,Bury St.Edmunds.


Parts of 5th Battalion were acting as rearguard on the Bergues-Furnes canal. The remainder of the Battalions withdrew to Bray dunes shortly after midnight on 31st May. The 5th battalion had been reduced from the 30 officers and 737 men it could count on 16th May to 17 officers and 516 men on the dunes at Bray.




Walter Rushbrooke is commemorated on the Dunkirk Memorial column 50
and on Bury St.Edmunds memorial
