and Mary Ann ROSBROOK (née SNELL).
For 2 census they were ROSBROOK and in 1911, when the householder completed the form, not an enumerator, the family name changed to RUSHBROOKE. 1891 census...Aged 9, he was at Free Wood Street, Thingoe with his father Benjamin ROSBROOK [54] farm labourer born Gedding; his mother Mary Ann [50]; brothers John [19] and William [13] both farm labourers; sisters Maryann [17] and Emma [11]. All except his father were born in Bradfield St George. 1901 census...Aged 18, a farm labourer, he was at Nunns Lane, Bradfield St George with his parents and sister Ellen. 1911 census...Aged 25 ? he was a gamekeeper at Bury Road, Gedding with his widowed mother and his niece Mary BULLETT [14] born Bradfield St George. In this census his mother is RUSHBROOKE, Robert is Rusbrooke. There had been 8 siblings but 3 had died. He married to Ethel May STURMAN [25-10-1888] in 1915 (Paddington Q2-1915 1A:144). The 1911 census has her born in Risby. His widow's address given as 111 Maida Vale, London W. Local legend has it that he was a gamekeeper in Risby for the Hengrave Estate. |

He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds.
Dying of his wounds in Etaples would seem to suggest he was wounded in the early stage of the Battle of the Somme.
