John Phillip Thorp was born on 20th March 1911 in Bath,(Bath Q2-1911 5C:445), son of Ernest and Kate THORP (née GIBBS). Not found a death of a Kate or Kathleen Thorp or marriage of Ernest Thorp to Julia ? but CWGC have his mother as Julia

In the 1939 register he was one of three single brothers living at 17 Cavenham. John P [20-3-1911] house painter/stretcher bearer ARP; Harold [23-10-1904] estate electrician/ special constable and Edward V [22-3-1903] labourer /stretcher bearer ARP.

He married Ella Maud GRAY (Bury St.Edmunds Q2-1940 4A:4008), living at Newmarket Road, Risby.

He was captured when Singapore was surrendered to the Japanese on 15th February 1942. He died working on the Thailand-Burma railway.
His PoW card gives his occupation as painter/decorator, mother Kathleen (Kate GIBBS married Ernest THORPE in Eccleshall in 1902} .
