Malcolm Charles HUMPHREY was born in 1920 (Risbridge Q1-1920 4A:2169), believed to be son of William Robert and Mary Jane HUMPHREY (née HANNIBAL).
In 1939 it may be his widowed mother at Portabello House, Steeple Bumpstead.


608 Squadron, with Lockheed Hudson Mk 5, operated from North Front, Gibraltar from 9th November to 17th December 1942, flying patrols over the western Mediterranean. Hudson "U" of 608 squadron took off 08:16 on search and attack cover for Operation Torch convoys
The crew of "U" were pilot- Lt G.W. Brodziak, (SAAF); navigator - Sgt W H Lip-Guey (RNZAF); Sgt W W Moss (RAF) and F/Sgt W E Humphrey (RAF). Whilst on anti submarine patrol they dropped down out of the clouds and were shot down by our own ships.
