John Thomas BUCKLE was born in Thurston in 1878 (Stow Q3-1878 4A:597, son of Frederick and Harriett BUCKLE (née SHARPE)

1881 census...Aged 2, he was at Meadows Lane, Thurston with his father Frederick BUCKLE[30] labourer; his mother Harriett [27] born Icklingham; sister Caroline Louisa[9] and brother William Frederick[6]. All except his mother were born in Thurston

1891 census...Aged 12, farm labourer, he was at Thedwastre Hill, Thurston with his parents; brother William (shepherd's page); sisters Kate [9], Emma [5] and Susie [2]. The new siblings also born in Thurston.

1901 census...Aged 22, a draper's porter,he was boarding at 33 to 38 Warwick Lane, Newgate, London. His parents were still at Thedwastre Hill.

He married Edith Elizabeth HENLEY at St Jude's, Southwark, London on 17th December 1910.

1911 census...32, a drapery warehouse packer,he was at 183 South Esk Road, Forest Gate with his wife Edith Elizabeth [37] born Llantrissant, Wales. His parents were still at Thedwastre Road. Two of the eight siblings had died.



He enlisted in East Ham. He died of his wounds in N0.11 General Hospital, Etaples. His Service records not being found it is impossible to state exactly where or when he was wounded
