Willie FLACK was born in Whepstead (1st quarter 1875 Thingoe 4a/521), son of William and Selina FLACK (née PASK). Selina JOHNSON married William FLACK in 1864 in Sudbury. William died in 1878 and Selina FLACK married George BASS in 1881.
He was baptised in St Petronilla, Whepstead on 2nd May 1875

1881 census...Aged 7 he was at Mickley Green, Whepstead with his step-father George BASS [43] farm labourer born Whepstead, his mother Selina [39] born Lawshall; sister Ruth FLACK [11] born Lawshall, brother John FLACK [2] born Whepstead

1891 census...Aged 16, a general labourer, he was at Mickley Green still with his stepfather (now recorded as born Rede); his mother; sister Laura BASS [9] born Whepstead; and brother John [12]

1901 census...Not found in this census, His step-father and mother were at Chapel Road, Whepstead

1911 census...Not found in this census (He was in the Army). His widower step father was at Mickley Green, Whepstead, his mother having died in 1902..



He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds on 9th July 1894.

Died in fighting with "C" Company at Haine, just west of Mons, together with Pte S Goddard. They were the first of the Suffolk Regiment to be killed in the war
