Walter PAWSEY was born in 1881 in Whepstead(1st qtr 1881 Thingoe 4a:588), son of William and Susannah PAWSEY (née BOREHAM).

1881 census...Aged 4 months, he was at Mickley Green, Whepstead with his father William PAWSEY [35] farm labourer; his mother Susan [40]; his brother Alffed [7] and Thomas [6] (these four all born in Brcckley); Brother William [4] and sister Jane [3] (these three born in Whepstead (Jane also known as Hannah).

1891 census... Aged 10, he was at Stone Cross, Whepstead with his father William PAWSEY [46] farm labourer; his mother Susannah [50]; brothers Alfred [17] and Thomas [16] both farm labourers (these four all born in Brockley), brothers William [14} and Frederick [7] and sister Hannah [12], these last three born in Whepstead.

1901 census...Aged 20, a farm labourer, he was at School Road, Whepstead with his parents and brothers Alfred, Wlliam and Frederick. All the men were farm labourers.

1911 census...Aged 30,a farm labourer, he was still at School Road, Whepstead with his parents; brother Alfred and William, all farm labourers, and nephew Harry Belsham [10] born Bury St.Edmunds.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.

On 3rd November, during the 3rd Battle for Gaza, the 5th Suffolks had been driven back to the enemy second line where they consolidated prepatory to renewing the attack on the 4th. CWGC fiures show the 5th Suffolks had 2 killed on the 3rd.
