The first memorial was a wooden board inside the old "Black Horse" which has since been lost.
The current war memorial was erected in 2000 as the base of the village sign on the grass verge by the junction of the B1066 (Brockley Road0 with Church Hill. At the base of the sign is a brick plinth on which is a tablet with the dedication and the 16 names. This was unveiled on 21st October 2000 by Rev Brian Raistrick, Rector of Whepstead, and dedicated by him. The base was built by Keith Feakes and the stonework was by Roly Nice and his son.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
