Frederick Paxman was born in Little Thurlow (Risbridge Q3-1890 4A:655), son of Charles and Sarah PAXMAN (née SHANKS).

1891 census...Aged 8 months, he was at Pound Green, Little Thurlow with his father Charles PAXMAN [35] gardener; his mother Sarah [35];v sisters Elizabeth [12], Rosa [6] and Emma [5]; brothers William [11], Charles [8] and Robert [3]. All except Frederick were born in Withersfield.

1901 census...Aged 10, he was at Wood House Cottage, Withersfield with his parents; sister Elizabeth; brothers William and Charles (both gamekeepers) Robert and Arthur [7] born Witherfield.

1911 census...Aged 21, single, he was gamekeeper at The Keepers Bothy, Luton Hoo, Bedfordshire. His parents were still at the Wood House with his sister Elizabeth: brothers Robert and Arthur (both horsekeepers); sister Rosa Ann MATTHEWS and her daughter Josephine Lily MATTHEWS [2 months] born Withersfield. All eight siblings survived.




He enlisted in Haverhill.
The battalion were at SENLIS, bivouaced at W.23.e on night of 13th. On 15th together with the 13th Cheshire Regiment relieved the 2nd Wiltshire Regiment in the trenches at La BOISSELLE, ref X.9.c.4.6 to X.9.c.8.2. to X.14.b.4.1. However the war diary does not explain exactly where they spent the 14th.

CWGC gives 7 killed on the 14th July 1916, none has a known grave
