William James Gooderham was born in Barrow (4th qtr 1896 Thingoie 4a:808) son of Walter William and Alice Louisa GOODERHAM (née MISON)

1901 census...Aged 4, he was at The Green, Barrow with his father Walter GOODERHAM [29] police constable born Braisworth; his mother Alice [29] born Ousden, and sister Dorothy [8 months] born Barrow.

1911 census...Aged 14, he was a lift boy, boarding at the Constitutional Club, St Clement Danes, London. His parents and sister had moved to the Police Station, Icklingham

His father died in 1911 and his mother married Robert BANKS in 1914 and moved to Crown Street, Castle Hedingham.


He enlisted in London
The battalion war diary for December 1915 has not been found. They were in the Bethune area.
