Peter James Ireland was born on 6th June 1922 (3rd qtr 1922 Chorlton 8c:1082) son of John Knowles and Rhoda IRELAND (née KNOTT)
Aged 3 months, on 4th August 1922, he and his parents and sister Joan Mary [8] left London on board the SS Macedonia bound for Shanghai. They had been living at 71 Parrs Wood Road, Didsbury, Lancs. He was at one time a member of the 1st Shanghai Scouts. He arrived in England from Shanghai on "Hamburg" at Southampton on May 14th 1936, intended address 31 Eagle Lane, Snaresbrook, London E11 |
Commissioned in 1943, Peter died around the time the 5th Division were protecting the right flank of the Arnhem operations. Originally buried at Maeseyck, he was re-interred on 7th November 1945 at Mierlo.
