John Henry Mouncer was born in Mundford, near Thetford 5th January 1919 (1st qtr 1919 Thetford 4b:419) son of Herbert and Emma Ethel MOUNCER (née CHATTEN)

In the 1939 register,he was a quarryman, living with 3 Colreston Cottages, Ickburgh with his brother Arthur and wife Margaret and his brother Walter (1 record closed).
He married Lottie May MANNING in 1941 and lived in Barrow



The battalion had landed at Sword Beach (Queen White), just west of Ouistrehem on D-Day. On 28th June they were north of Caen attacking Chateau de la Londe. The battalion had 36 killed that day and very many wounded





John Mouncer is buried in La Delivrande War Cemetery, Douvres, France 10:J:10
