No.T/199511, Corporal, Robert John BROWN B.E.M.
Aged 33

35 Company (Transport), Royal Army Service Corps
Killed in Action on 29th April 1945

Robert James BROWN was born in 1912 ..and sadly that is all we can say of him as a civilian. No trace of a Beyton connection

The recommendation in 1945 for his British Empire medal reads:-
35 Coy RASC (Transport) T/199511 Lance Corporal BROWN, Robert John:
This NCO is in charge of a section of tippers and has been attached to a Divisional RE Company during November and Decemeber. His work has entailed the carriage of, material for building a corduroy road whichwas being constructed in fron to the infantry. The road was under fire by snipers and latterly under constant shell fire. Cpl Brown was continuously at the forward end of the road encouraging his drivers with his good words and complete disregard for his personal danger, and his standard of leadership has been of the highest order

He was initially buried in Hohnstorf and re-interred on 14th May 1947
