Harcourt Farebrother was born in Shimla, India on 30th July 1923, the son of Lt.Col. Francis Hughes and Edith Violet Muspratt FAREBROTHER (née WILLIAMS)

Harcourt and his mother arrived in UK via SS Moldavia, in london on 21st October 1927, dedtination c/o Mrs Muspratt Williams, Trinity mansions, Eastbourne The family home was at Poplar House, Beyton



He was commissioned on 3rd October 1942 and served with 6th Armoured Division in North Africa


The 26th Armoured Brigade had been ordered to by pass Perugia and head for the NE corner of Lake Trasimere. Peruigia was heavily defended and they proceeded to the top of a ridge known as Monte Corneo from where theyn overlooked Perugia. During the night 18th/19th, Lt Farebrother was badly wounded on patrol by a German grenade and died later that night.

Harcourt was initially buried elsewhere (unable to ascertain where) and re-interred in Assisi on 17th January 1945
