1901 census...Aged 5, he was at 27 Ross Street, Salford, Lancs with his father Charles FRIEND [43] labourer in paper mill, born Salisbury, Wilts; his mother Elizabeth [40]; sister Flosence [11] and brother Thomas[9]. All except his father born in Salford. 1911 census...Aged 15, he was at 5 Castle Street, Salford with his parents and brother Thomas. His mother had lost 5 of her 8 children On the pension card his father was at Pitches Farm, Bradfield St Clare. "Soldiers Died" has Frederick born in Salford, enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. |
He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds The battalion war diary says no casualties on 5th but CWGC have him as the only 9th Suffolk killed that day, 1 other did die elsewhere in hospital
