Born at 91 Senegal Road, Bermondsey on 28th September 1897 (4th qtr Greenwich 1d:1061), son of Albert and Harriett HENLEY (née ADDIS).Baptised at St.Bartholomew's, Camberwell on 3rd November 1897.

1901 census...Aged 3, he was at 3 Foundry Cottages, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Albert E HENLEY [27], sewing machine agent, born Peckham and his mother Harriet [24] born Walworth.

1911 census...Aged 13, a seedsman's van boy, he was at 20 Springfied Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents; sister Lilian G[9] and brother Victor H [5]


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.

FROM BOY SCOUT TO SUFFOLK SOLDIER - SIGNALLER A.E.HENLEY AT THE DARDANELLES :-
First Class Signaller, Albert Edward Henley, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.E.Henley of Springfield Road, Bury St.Edmunds, who is on active service aat the Dardanelles. He is 18 years of age and was born in London, a couple of years before his parents came to Bury St.Edmunds to live. He joined the 5th Suffolks some time ago and was subsequently transferred to the Royal Engineers, Signalling Corps. When at school in Bury St.Edmunds he belonged to the Boy Scouts of which organisation he was a loyal and intelligent worker.
