All except his mother were born in Bury St.Edmund 1901 census...Aged 12, he was at the Rushbrook Arms, Little Welnetham with his parents (father publican); brother William. His mother died in 1903 1911 census...None found in this census He married Alice Mary COOPER [17-2-1892] in St.Mary's Church, Bury St.Edmunds on 1st June 1914, later of 3 Bakers Lane, Southgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds |

He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds on 1915, placed on Reserves and mobilised on 5th June 1916. He was from 53 Garland Street, Bury St.Edmunds, born 1888, 27
years 7 months, 3 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 107 lbs, chest 32 to 34 inches, Church of England, a bootmaker. :Posted to BEF on 28th September 1916. His personal belonging sent to his widow were photos, pipe, testament, 2 cigarette case, mirror, 2 coins (farthings =1/4 penny) Mobilised into 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment he went via Folkestone- Boulogne on 29th September 1916, and was transferred to the 6th York and Lancaster Regiment on 14th October. His mother had died and his father was at the White Hart, Southgate Street, Bury St Edmunds with his brother William Charles [27] He died of Bronchitis at 33rd Field Ambulance.
