Born in 1889 (3rd qtr Bury St.Edmunds 4a:6920) son of John and Elizabeth PROCTOR (née COLLINGS)

1891 census...Aged 1, he was at 44 Northgate Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his father John PROCTOR [33] boot maker born Whepstead; his mother Elizabeth [33] born Barrow sisters Alice Preston [11], Matilda Elizabeth [6] and Louisa Beatrice [4]; brother John Milton [10] and Charles [8]. All the children were born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1901 census...Aged 11, he was at 61 Cannon Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents; sisters Louisa and May [9]; brothers William (shoe maker), Charles ( carpenter/joiner),Bertie [5] and Spencer [3]

1911 census...Aged 21, he was a private in the 2nd Northamptonshire regiment in Malta. At 61 Cannon Street were his parents; brother Bertie (assisting in business) and Spencer; cousin Arthur PROCTOR [22] railway porter born Harwich.

His brother Bertie was killed in France in 1916 see here


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. War Diary
On the morning of 11th Mar about 7 am "C" Coy and part of "A" Coy attempted to renew the attack several times but were re[pulsed by heavy fire from the enemy machine guns, suffering very heavy casualties,
At 12 noon "D" Coy attempted to advance but were repulsed by heavy fire, Lt Coldwell being shot in both legs and Lt Gordon in the throat. The battalion remained in the trenches for the remainder of the day.
