Born in Risby in 1892 (1st qtr Thingoe 4a:759) son of James and Bridget Ellen SHARPE (née ORBELL)
1901 census...Aged 9, he was at Flempton Green with his father James SHARPE [34] miller's carter; his mother Bridget [31]; sister Mary J [5]; grandmother Sarah SHARPE [76] born Rougham. All except his grandmother were born in Risby. 1911 census...Aged 19, a seedsman's labourer, he was at 33 Peckham Street, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents, father now cask washer at brewery. He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. Although overseas in 1914, it is not the 1914 Star, that was purely for France/Flanders, all other areas received the 1914-1915
Star, which has an identical ribbon to the 1914 Star.
He was killed in the action at Ctesiphon, the battalion suffering 279 casualties that day, including 31 killed. This was shortly before the retreat to Kut.
