Henry John Fuller was born in Burwell on 27th February 1897 (Newmarket Q2-1897 3B:507), baptised in Burwell on 7th April 1897, son of John and Caroline FULLER (née CLAYDON).

1901 census...Aged 4, he was at Church Lane, Burwell with his father John FULLER [35] labourer; his mother Caroline [34]; brother James W. [7] and sister Elizabeth M [11 months]. They were all born in Burwell.

1911 census...Aged 14, he was still at Church Lane with his parents, brother James (farm labourer), sister Lizzie and sister Florrie [4] and brother Thomas [1] both born in Burwell. Two sisters had died, Caroline [1895-1896] and Sally [1903-1904]. There was a younger brother born in 1913, Albert G.

The pension card , which refused a pension, has his dependant as aunt, Annie BARTON of 53 Brassey Road, Winchester.

He enlisted in Cambridge and was a resident in Winchester, Hampshire (presumably with his aunt).
Initially he was in the 2nd Battalion. On the 13th June 1917 the 8th Battalion relieved the 8th Royal West Kents in the left sub sector of the left section of Observatory Ridge trenches (Zillebeke area). The relief was complete by 1:05 am . "A" Coy right, "C" Coy centre, "B" Coy left and "D" Coy in support. On the 14th an operation was carried out by a Brigade to their right. Patrols were sent out and Lewis Gun fire was opened on hostile machine guns. One officer wounded. 15th/16th..In trenches. Enemy Artillery very active ....Casualties for the three days 14,15 and 16 June were 13 killed and 29 wounded.

Remembered on the family grave in Burwell, with his brother Thomas (died as Japanese P o W in 1943)
