Stanley Harries was born on 18th April 1889 in Holborn (St GILES Q2-1899 1B:637), baptised in St Peter, De Beauvoir Town, Hackney on 12th May 1889, son of Isaac and Emma Jane Amelia HARRIES (née JACOBY).

1891 census...Aged 2 months, he was at School House, High Town, Burwell with his father Isaac HARRIES [32] schoolmaster elementary, born Monkton, Pembroke; his mother Emma J A [30] born Clerkenwell and brother Stanley [3 months] born Burwell.

1901 census...Aged 12, he was still at the School House, Burwell with his parents and brother Gilbert.

1911 census...He may have been the 21 yrs old Stanley HARRIES, a clerk in L.C.C. education department lodging at 134 Kyverdale Road, Stamford Hill, London. His parents and brother Gilbert were still at the School House, Burwell. There was another brother Charles Edward who died aged 10 days in November 1893

No pension card has been found.

He was the elder brother of Gilbert HARRIES who was killed in Belgium in 1917. see here

The London County Council Record of War Service has Stanley as a rifleman in the 24th King's Royal Rifle Corps, of their education Officer's Department administrative staff, dying at Ashington in Northumberland of pneumonia.

He apparently had no overseas service, hence no medals




Stanley Harries is buried in Burwell (St Mary's ) Churchyard, near south boundary
