CHEDBURGH WAR MEMORIAL


Chedburgh All Saints

The war memorial is an alabaster tablet on the wall. About 80 cm high by 90 cm wide, it has a coloured floral border and inscribed with black lettering, a Greek cross top centre and the shield of Norwich Diocese top left, St Edmunds top right, St. Geoge left side and Canterbury Diocese right side. The inscription reads:
THE GREAT WAR
1914-1919
IN MEMORIAM
(the sixteen names)
"Their name liveth for evermore"
ECCLES'CUS 44.14

It was dedicated on 31st October 1920 by the Rector, Rev. H.W.N. Cave

There is also a brassplate commemorating Beaupre Augustine CREED, inscribed :-

SECOND SON OF
REVD HENRY KEYWORTH CREED
DIED OF ENTERIC FEVER
AT POTSCHEFSTROOM, S.AFRICA
JANUARY 29TH 1902, AETAT 36 YEARS
