PEARL (née OSBORNE). 1901 census...Aged 9, he was in CastleCamps with his father Bennett PEARL [35] farm labourer; his mother Julia [29] and sisters Emma [7] and Carrie [5]. All were born in Castle Camps. 1911 census...Aged 19, farm labourer, he was in Castle Camps with his parents and sister Carrie. Sister Emma was a servant of the Stutfield family, Kingswood, West End Av., Pinner, Middlesex. |
He enlisted in Linton.
The war diary has :- Schwaben Redoubt - 18th - Wet, heavy rain. Heavy shelling all morning. Rations coming up, water etc. 2nd Lt Pearce killed. Large carrying party did not turn up. Enemy straffing all day -slightly quieter in early evening.Heavy rain all night. Casualties about 12 killed - 30 wounded. CWGC has 6 killed. As Frank has no known grave, he may have last been seen wounded and his body never identified, or he was buried and the grave lost in later fighting.
