MOORE, Charles William

No.5770443, Private, Charles William MOORE
Aged 28

1st Battalion, Dorset Regiment
formerly Norfolk Regiment
Killed in Action on Friday, 4th August 1944

Charles MOORE was born around 1916. According to the 1939-1945 Army Roll of Honour he was born in SE London. There is insufficient information to identify him as a civilian other than his marriage to Dorothy Stubbings

He married Dorothy Gladys STUBBINGS [3-12-1919](Newmarket Q4-1942) of Cowlinge

In the 1939 register Dorothy (single) was at Seven Elms Park Cottages, Cowlinge, with her widower father William STUBBINGS [11-4-1871] gardener's labourer. Not even knowing the forename of his mother, Charles' civilian identity is almost impossible to identify.

His widow later married Kenneth J MURKIN (Newmarket Q3-1955)

The 1st Dorsets lost a great number in the D-Day landing and received reinforcements from many regiments so this may be when he was transferred from the Norfolks. Early August saw them near Villers-Bocage

Initially buried in Les Landes, he was re-interred in Tilly-sur-Seulles on 25th June 1945
