George was flying in Avro Lancaster MkIII, ser no ED841, c/s AS-L of 166 Squadron, took off at 17:30 from RAF Kimmington, near Brigg in Lincolnshire on a raid
of nearly 900 aircraft on Berlin. 48 aircraft were lost, ED841 being shot down and crashing near Freudenberg, about 40 miles east of Cologne, killing all the
crew except one.They were:- Pilot-F/O Raymond ROBINSON; Navigator- Sgt George CLARK; Air Bmr- F/Sgt Raymond SMITH; W.Op Ag- F/Sgt Donald STOKES; Air Gnr- Sgt Norman JONES; Air Gnr F/O Basil WRIGHT Flight Engineer- Sgt H.K.
