John Marcon FLOYD was born on 25th March 1882 in Runcton Holme, Norfolk (Downham Q2-1882 4B:354), baptised 2nd June 1882 at Runcton Holme, son of Rev. Charles Greenwood (M.A.) and Edith Ellen FLOYD (née MARCON). later of Runcton Holme, Norfolk

1891 census...Aged 9, he was at 44 Cadogan Place, Chelsea with his widowed grandmother Ellen MARCON [62] own means, born India; uncle John MARCON [35] born Bath; aunts Florence MARCON [33] and Blanche MARCON [40] both born Wallington, Norfolk; his mother Edith FLOYD [40] born Bath and his brother Arthur Bowen FLOYD [3] born Holme, Norfolk. His sister Helena Margaret was born in Holme in 1881. His father Charles G FLOYD [60] born Italy, rector of Runcton Holme, was at the Rectory, Runcton Holme.

He was educated at Charterhouse from 1896 to 1899

1901 census...Aged 19, articled clerk (law) he was a boarder at 5 Osmaburgh Street, St.Pancras,London with Francis and Kate PROCTOR. His father and sister Helena [20] were living at the Rectory, Flempton. His mother was visiting Ernest (a brewer) and Charlotte LACON in London

His father died in 1903 and is buried in Flempton (St Catherine) Churchyard.

1911 census...Aged 29, a chartered accountant, he was at 80 Park Mansion, (149 Knightsbridge) City of Westminster.

In 1915 the electoral roll has him at 80 Park Mansion, (149 Knightsbridge) City of Westminster.80 Park Mansions, His address at probate was 7 Sloane Street, Middlesex, administration to Helena Margaret HOLDEN (wife of Cecil James Shuttleworth HOLDEN. His death was registered in Chelsea. He died at 7 Sloane Street, London from Pneumonia, brought on by Influenza. His occupation given as chartered accountant.


So far, apart from his entry in CWGC little is known of his military history. His father, buried in Flempton, was Rector of St Catherines when he died, hence John's burial also in Flempton.

He was gazetted Temp 2nd Lieutenant in Royal Flying Corps on 3rd December 1917
