"FAKENHAM MAGNA WAR MEMORIAL"

To the eternal memory of the men of FAKENHAM MAGNA who died in the service of their country
Ten in the Great War of 1914-1919




Dedicated on 2nd November 1919, Fakenham Magna war memorial is a wall mounted, inscribed wooden plaque inside the church of St Peter on Thetford Road.
Inside the church on the left hand (north) wall of the nave, it is a carved oak board, surmounted by a carved laurel wreath, flanked by scrolls bearing the dates 1914 and 1918. In the centre is the general commemoration, below which are carved the initials, surnames and ranks of the 10 men of the parish who died during WW1. The dedication reads:-

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN PROUD
AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THOSE WHO
GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR
THE FONT COVER WAS DEDICATED 1919.
followed by the names in rank, then alphabetical order by surname of the fallen
and under them
THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE

The font cover was dedicated by The Revd. Bewley-Caton in March 1919. The Euston estate donated the wood for its construction.




In addition, inside, on the west wall, there is a framed, glazed, Roll of Honour, listing those who served in the Great War and a brass wall plaque at the rear of the nave on the south wall, adjacent to the Roll of Honour:A brass memorial plaque commemorating Lance Corporal Alfred G. Berry,
