Charles Hubbard was born in Fakenham (Thetford Q3-1898 4B:360), son of Frederick and Sarah HUBBARD (née KEMP).

1881 census...Aged 3, he was at the village, Fakenham with his father Frederick HUBBARD [29] farm labourer, born Blo Norton; his mother Sarah [30] born Euston; brother Frederick [5] born Euston; sister Annie [1] born Fakenham.

His mother died in 1885 and his father married Sabina GRIMWOOD in 1889 (she was recorded at marriage as Lavinia)

1891 census...Aged 13, a farm labourer, he was at Euston Road, Fakenham with his father and stepmother; brother Fred (farm labourer); sister Annie; half brothers William [9] and Frank [1 month] born Fakenham; half sister Kate [1] born Fakenham and step brother James GRIMWOOD [6] born Fakenham.

1901 census...Aged 23, he was a journeyman bricklayer, boarding with Jabez and Elizabeth LOVAT at Barningham Park, Barwell. At The Street, Fakenham Magna were his father Frederick HUBBARD [47] farm labourer born Blo Norton; his step-mother Sabina [41] born Troston; brother Frederick [25] farm labourer born Euston; half brothers Frank [10] George [2] and Herbert [3 weeks] all born in Fakenham; sister Harriett [17] born Euston and half sister Ada [6] born Fakenham and step-brother James GRIMWOOD (entered as HUBBARD).

In 1903 he married Mary HILL

1911 census...Aged 32, a bricklayer, he was at 71 Bury Road, Thetford with his wife Mary [47] born Tundenhall, Norfolk; their daughter Dorothy [7] born Thetford; his step-daughter Annie HILL [10] born Wramplingham. Norfolk.

His step- brother James GRIMWOOD was killed in France in 1916. see here

He enlisted in Thetford.
Dying of his wounds and also being an Engineer and no Army service records being found, it is impossible to say where or when he was wounded. No 8 Casualty Clearing Station was the main user of the cemetery.
