Joseph Alfred Liddamore was born in Fakenham (Thetford Q1-1885 4B:421), son of William and Caroline LIDDAMORE (née HAILSTONE).

1891 census...Aged 6, he was at Euston Road, Fakenham Magna with his father William LIDDAMORE [31] farm labourer born Euston; his mother Caroline [37] born Thurston; brother Frederick [8] born Fakenham.

1901 census...Aged 16, a farm labourer, he was at The Street, Fakenham Magna with his parents and brother Frederick (farm labourer).

1911 census...Aged 26, he was at Fakenham Magna with his parents and brother Frederick.

His mother died in 1913 and his father re married to Eliza FRANCIS in 1914.

He died in Thetford Military Hospital on 8th December 1918 from influenza./broncho-pneumonia.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds on 27th March 1916, giving his age as 31 years 1 month, a farm labourer born and living in Fakenham nr. Thetford. He was 5 feet 4 inches (162.6 cm)tall, weighed 109 lbs (49.6 kg), chest 32" to 34" (81.3 to 86.4 cm), Church of England. His father William, mother stepmother Eliza and brother Frederick all at Fakenham on the living family form.

His service record is badly damaged but he appears to have been mobilised into the 6th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment on 10th October 1916, and transferred to the Labour Corps in October 1917, ending up in the 430 Agriculture Company, Labour Corps No.395548 and was mobilised in the 6th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment on 10th October 1916.
No medal index card has been found, and as his medial category was B1, maybe he never served abroad, hence no medals. He seems to have been admitted to hospital on 27th November 1918 and died in Thetford Military Hospital on 8th December 1918. He was not on the records of CWGC but application was made via "In from the Cold" to see if he could be recognised on the National Book of Remembrance. This was successful and on 18th November 2015 his details were added to the National Book of Remembrance. According to his records, he is buried in St Peter's Churchyard, Fakenham Magna and efforts will be made to try and find his grave and it may now be possible to have a CWGC headstone installed.
