Cecil James Walton was born in Little Saxham on 2nd November 1890 (Thingoe Q4-1890 4A:639), baptised in Little Saxham, St Nicholas on 15th March 1891, son of Thomas Frederick and Ellen WALTON (née BUCKLE).

1891 census...Aged 5 months, he was at Green Farm, Little Saxham with his father Thomaqs WALTON [31] coachman born Elmswell; his mother Ellen [34] born Rougham; brothers Percy [6] born Bardwell and Sidney [4] born Rougham.

1901 census...Aged 10,he was at The Street, Fornham St Martin with his parents, brothers Percy and Sidney and sister Agnes [4] born Fornham St Martin.

1911 census...Aged 21, single, man servant, he was at 112 Cemetery Road, Bury St Edmunds, visiting Harry Rolfe PROCTOR and his wife Emma and daughter Olive.

In 1915 he married Olive Emma PROCTOR [25-12-1893]. His widow was at 112 Kings Road, Bury St.Edmunds.




He enlisted in Maidstone, Kent.

On 20th September the 49 Brigade were in the Bazentin le Grand area apparently supporting units attacking High Wood at Longueval. The war dairy mentions no casualties, not even officers. CWGC records just Cecil dying from "A" Battery, 49th Brigade. It is not known whether he died of wounds at a CCS near Dernancourt.
