Ausin Provost Baldwin was born in 1883 in Great Barton (1st qtr 1883 Thingoe 4a:651) son of William and Anna Jane BALDWIN (née PROVOST).

1891 census...Aged 8, he was at "The Elms" Great Barton, with his father William BALDWIN [45] farmer born Cockfield; his mother Anna J [39] born Thorney, Cambridgeshire; brothers Willam B [10] and Clement [6] . All three brothers were born in Great Barton. His father died in 1892.

1901 census...Aged 18, a wine and spirits ledge clerk, he was at The Elms, Great Barton with his uncle Frank BALDWIN [44] single, farmer, born Cockfield. His mother and brother William had moved to a farm at Southea cum Murrow, Cambridgeshire.

1911 census...Aged 28, an auctioneer, surveyor, valuer, he was at 13 Church Street, Market Harboro, boarding with widow Emma Eaton and her 4 daughters.



The 2nd Suffolks crossed the Canal du Nord on 27th/28th September and despite stiff bombardment by Germans as they started the assault, they took Flesquieres, but Austin Baldwin was among the 24 of the battalion who were killed.
